Connecticut native Liam Corrigan wins first US Olympic gold in rowing since 1960

A Connecticut native and Harvard University alum made history at the Paris Olympics Thursday when him and his team won the first gold medal in men's four rowing for the United States since 1960.

Liam Corrigan , who grew up in Old Lyme, won gold in the 2,000 meter men's four final in rowing alongside teammates Michael Grady, Justin Best and Nick Mead.

Corrigan also has ties to another New England state; he graduated from Harvard University in 2019 with a degree in physics and astrophysics.

Liam Corrigan , an Olympian from Old Lyme, won a gold medal in the rowing 2,000 meter men's four final.

Alongside teammates Michael Grady, Justin Best and Nick Mead, Corrigan also won in the event at the 2023 World Championships.

The United States hasn't won a gold medal in the event since 1960.

Corrigan, who holds degrees from Harvard University and Oxford University, called the win in an interview on the Team USA website "unbelievable."

“I crossed the line, and I thought I was going to have some kind of celebration," Corrigan said. "But it was just disbelief. My hands were on my head. It felt like a dream, it was crazy.”

Corrigan, who stroked the boat in the race, previously competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
