Two people dead in car accident
DELTA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) — Bradley Joseph Armendariz of Delta and Tasha Nicole Cruz of Montrose died in a vehicle accident on Colorado 65 on April 28 in Delta County. Sometime during the night at milepost 3.5, the driver lost control of the Ford Expedition and it rolled, throwing the two people out of the car, who were not wearing seatbelts.
U.S. 50 bridge closure may continue for several months
A major road connecting Gunnison and Montrose was closed indefinitely over safety concerns after cracks were found in a bridge over Blue Mesa Reservoir on April 18. CDOT officials said Tuesday that the repairs to the bridge could take months to complete. Local detours are opening up, easing the pressure on communities on both sides of the closure.
Western Sky Balloon Festival to be held this summer in Delta
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - The 2nd annual 4th of July Western Sky Balloon Festival will be hosted at Confluence Park in Delta this summer. The festival will include 20 spectacular hot air balloons, a community breakfast, a magician, craft fair, live music from a variety of bands and musicians, tether rides, evening glow, beer garden, food trucks, games, competitions, prizes, and fireworks.

Lake City cutoff now open to larger trucks, trailers
Approximately three weeks after the Middle Bridge on US Highway 50 over Blue Mesa Reservoir was closed for safety concerns, cutting off traffic flow between Gunnison and areas to the west, a full analysis of the bridge’s damage and the repairs needed is about halfway done. There is still no estimated timeline of when the bridge might reopen, but one alternate route is opening to a wider range of vehicles this week. Other alternate routes between Gunnison County and areas to the west are not yet ready to open due to inclement spring weather.
Delta Soccer wins 15th in a row, advances to state final four
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - The Delta Panthers Girls Soccer Team have not lost a game since the middle of March, and now they are marching through the state playoffs. After acing their first two playoff matchups against Eagle Ridge Academy and Alamosa, where the Panthers won by a combined score of 12-1, they headed to a quarterfinal matchup with the Stargate Eagles.
