UPDATE:

The 7-year-old girl was going through surgery and no suspects have been arrested.

Neighbors telling News 4 shootings seem to happen all the time in the area, but they would never expect a little girl to get shot.

“I couldn’t believe it,” said Elizabeth Helms, who lives nearby.

Helms said she was startled by several police cars and yellow tape surrounding her home off 15th Street and Westwood Boulevard.

OKCPD said at-least one person inside a car was driving by and shooting at people outside. Police also said the people outside started shooting back at the car.

“It’s sad because I can’t believe all this violence we got in the world,” said Helms. “I see them all the time outside playing, mostly over here right behind me.”

Jason Young who has lived in the neighborhood for several years, said he was coming home from a busy Sunday morning when he heard what happened.

“It breaks my heart to hear something like that,” said Young. “People acting crazy around here, it doesn’t make any sense.”

Lieutenant Jeff Copper said detectives are investigating the shooting trying to piece together what led to the little girl getting shot.

“We’ve also been canvasing this entire neighborhood, knocking on doors, just asking anybody if they’ve seen anything, heard anything,” said Cooper.

Neighbors said violence happens too often in their neighborhood leaving them nervous and wondering who could be next.

“I don’t know if a bullet is going to fly this way and hit me or what,” said Young.

“It’s scary because it could have been me,” said Helms. “Then to think it happened to a little kid that’s innocent, that’s even worse.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Oklahoma City Police Department.
