MARTIN THAT THEY ARE HAPPY TO BE BACK IN ACTION TODAY. A BIG DAY FOR THE OKLAHOMA CITY UNIVERSITY’S ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT. THEIR BRAND NEW GYM UP AND RUNNING AFTER FLOODING DEVASTATED THEIR COURTS BACK IN DECEMBER. I THINK IT WAS LIKE IT’S LIKE A LITTLE KID ON CHRISTMAS WHEN YOU’RE LOOKING TO SEE IF THE PRESENTS HAVE ARRIVED YET FROM SANTA. BUT UNLIKE CHRISTMAS MORNING, OSU’S MEN’S HEAD BASKETBALL COACH MARK BERKOFF DIDN’T KNOW WHEN HE’D GET TO UNWRAP THAT GIFT. WE BELIEVED IT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN, BUT IT FELT LIKE IT WOULD NEVER GET THERE. AND THE RELIEF OF HAVING A HOME COURT AGAIN CAME JUST A DAY BEFORE THE START OF SUMMER CAMPS. LEADERS IN THE DEPARTMENT CALLED THE PROCESS TO GET THEIR TEDIOUS. EVERY ONE OF THOSE PIECES, THEY’RE ABOUT AN INCH AND A HALF WIDE ARE LAID BY HAND. BUT COMMUNITY SUPPORT HELPED THEM REACH THE GOAL. WE WERE ALL OVER THE PLACE FOR PRACTICES AND GAMES, AND SO A LOT OF PEOPLE STEPPED UP AND HELPED US OUT WHILE THE WATER WASHED AWAY SOME SCHOOL HISTORY, IT DIDN’T ERODE THEIR SPIRIT. WE GET TO BUILD OUR OWN HISTORY ON THIS NEW FLOOR AND THAT’S KIND OF WHAT IT FELT LIKE. IT WAS JUST WE WERE ALL SMILES. REPORTING FROM OKLAHOMA CITY
