An American icon made a stop in the Sooner state this week, surprising many shoppers across the metro.

Over the weekend, the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile set up in parking lots from Edmond to Oklahoma City to Mustang.

Walmart shoppers at six locations got the opportunity to take pictures, receive weenie whistles and meet the hotdoggers behind the wheel.

One of those hotdoggers is Shelby Lewis.

“Sometimes I have to pinch myself,” Lewis said. “A parade every day.”

On the road, Lewis is known as Sizzlin’ Shelby. She has been on the job for nine months.

“You can’t have a bad day when you’re driving a hotdog,” Lewis said.

There are only six Wienermobiles in the country. Out of thousands of applications, only 12 people are hired each year to pilot them.

“More people have been to space than have driven the Wienermobile,” Lewis said.

It’s a coveted spot for Sizzlin’ Shelby and her co-pilot Queso Dog Keila.

“When you see it you just want to smile and that’s what we’re here to do,” Keila said.

Smiles abounded at the Walmart in Mustang as some shoppers were filled with nostalgia. Others were curious to see it for the first time.

“I think we do feel that responsibility,” Lewis said. “I feel like we’re creating the next generation of Wienermobile lovers.”
