MARINETTE — The Oconto Falls girls volleyball team spoiled senior night for Marinette with a 3-0 sweep on Thursday.
The Panthers won 25-16, 25-15 and 25-8.
Oconto Falls jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the opening set before a block from Olivia Hanson and a pair of aces by Bry Torkko helped Marinette race ahead by three.
The Panthers ripped off five straight points to take a 13-10 lead, but Marinette battled back and pulled within one thanks to a dig by Brianna Adamski and an ace courtesy of Wynn Erdman.
Oconto Falls began to find soft spots in Marinette’s defense as Amber Otto powered in a pair of kills to help the Panthers push ahead 24-16m while an ace by Hailyn St. Louis capped off the nine-point victory.
An ace from Erdman coupled with a dig by Chloe Seymour allowed the Marines to seize a 3-0 advantage in game two, only to see Otto fire off a quartet of aces to push the Panthers ahead 11-4.
A pair of 3-0 runs by the Panthers made it a 17-8 contest, while kills by Otto and an ace from Rylie Shallow gave O.F. a 23-11 cushion.
The Panthers misplayed several balls to keep Marinette in contention, with a spike by Hanson pulling the Marines within nine, but Torkko’s ensuing serve crashed into the net, handing the 10-point win to Oconto Falls.
Otto, Morgan Moynihan and St. Louis all collected aces while Kathryn Raddatz added a kill to give the Panthers an 8-2 lead to kick off the third set, but a trio of Oconto Falls miscues helped the Mariens make it a three-point affair.
Marinette was able to stay within seven points of the Panthers until a string of six unanswered points gave Oconto Falls a 20-7 edge.
The Marines were able to get one final point but an ace by Moynihan kicked off a 5-0 closing run for the Panthers.
Thursday’s contest was the last home game for seniors Erdman, Abigail Snowtala, Cassidee Stewart.
“We did very well on our serves tonight. It was really good seeing the girls put the ball into some nice spots,” Marinette coach Jenna Miller said. “It was good to see the girls having fun and enjoying themselves, especially on senior night, when it’s the last time they may ever take the court again.”
