OCEAN−A male riding a motorized scooter on Route 35 Monday night was killed in a collision involving an on-duty township police officer and several other vehicles, authorities said.

The New Jersey Attorney General's Office is investigating the fatality since it involved a law enforcement officer.

The crash happened shortly after 9 p.m. on Route 35 South near Sunset Avenue, the Attorney General's Office said in a statement.

The male scooter rider died at the scene. There were no other injuries, according to the statement.

Neither the name of the victim nor the officer involved, nor any further details of the collision were released.

Since the passing of a 2019 law, the Attorney General's Office has investigated in-custody deaths and those otherwise involving law enforcement officers.
