N.J. man assaulted Pa. state troopers after his car broke down in Berks Co., authorities say

A Monmouth County man was arrested after authorities say he attacked a pair of Pennsylvania State Police troopers after his vehicle became disabled in Berks County.

Michael J. Mazza, 40, of Ocean Township was charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, terroristic threats and resisting arrest Monday in Maxatawny Township, according to court documents.

Troopers used a stun gun on Mazza when he became agitated and tried to hit the troopers after they learned there was a warrant out for his arrest and they tried to take him into custody, authorities said.

Mazza broke free and tried to run away, authorities said. The troopers eventually pepper sprayed Mazza and took him into custody, officials said.

The troopers suffered minor injuries.

An attorney for Mazza was not listed in court records. He is being held in the Berks County jail on $20,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday afternoon, court records state. His arrest was first reported by WFMZ.com.
