Town of Ocean Isle Beach reminds community to be mindful of sea turtle nesting season
OCEAN ISLE BEACH, N.C. (WECT) - The Town of Ocean Isle Beach is alerting residents how to help sea turtles during nesting season from May 1-October 31. Baby sea turtles rely on natural lights from the moon, stars, or breaking waves to find their way to the ocean and may mistake house lights, flashlights, or streetlights for the direction they need to go.
North Myrtle Beach large dog park to temporarily close for maintenance

North Carolina golfer wins big on a lottery ticket, says ‘I’m going to get a new set of irons’
A North Carolina man has already made plans for part of the large cash prize he won on a scratchers lottery ticket. “I’m going to get a new set of irons,” Jack Romans Jr. of Calabash, North Carolina, told WECT-TV. Romans bought a scratch-off ticket at a convenience store during the North Carolina Education Lottery’s $2,000,000 Diamond Deluxe campaign. “I guess I was just in the right place at the right time,” Romans said. “It’s my birthday in a week. This is a nice early birthday present.” Romans won one of the five $100,000 prizes and claimed it on Friday. His take-home amount was $71,506 after paying federal and state taxes. He did say he also planned to pay some bills with his winnings. The lottery has three $2 million prizes in the scratchers game as well.
