Five things in music: June 2024
One of the best things about our music scene in Champaign-Urbana is the support and commitment by many venues and bookers to foster the development of our local music scene. This month, I wanted to highlight some of these venues and acknowledge what they do for our local artists. This is by no means a complete list. There are several other regular events and establishments that also do much to support our local scene (Loose Cobra, Alto Vineyards, Friday Night Live, Toast to Taylor Street, the campus house party scene, to name only a few), but I chose five venues to highlight this month that support local talent and give artists somewhere to cut their teeth.

Change is inevitable
This week we learned that Maize’s Green Street location is officially closed, as the building will be demolished to make way for new development. Don’t worry, though, you can still get your Maize fix at the Station in Downtown Champaign, at the Illini Union location, or from the food truck. Serious backup cleared on Interstate 74 near Urbana
CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) - A serious backup is being reported on Interstate 74 westbound at milepost 186 near Urbana. The backup is reported as the earlier removal of a semi-truck caused a lane obstruction. Illinois State Police said the temporary closure of both lanes may be necessary.
