(WWJ) The Michigan State Police has released details about three arrests after separate traffic stops in Metro Detroit, all involving the seizure of firearms that people should not have had on them.
The most recent incident happened early Tuesday morning, along 8 Mile Road in Royal Oak Township.
According to MSP, troopers stopped a driver who was driving without headlights. There were three people in the car, police said, and the rear passenger was seen making "furtive movements."
Upon further investigation, MSP said the driver provided false information to troopers, was found to be driving with a suspended license and had a warrant for shoplifting.
It was also determined, police alleged, that the rear passenger had a stolen loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson in his waistband. He arrested and lodged on pending expected charges.
The front seat passenger, police said, was also arrested for an armed robbery warrant.
In a separate incident on Monday, March 13, troopers stopped a vehicle the Lodge Freeway (M-10) in Southfield for alleged improper lane use and for not wearing a seatbelt.
The driver "displayed furtive gestures," police said, and when questioned admitted to troopers that he had a gun in the glove box.
Troopers searched the car and found a loaded .22 Glock 44 pistol. The driver, who did not have a CPL, was arrested and lodged pending prosecutor review.
In another incident, back on Saturday March 4, MSP said Metro North Post troopers responded to the scene of a crash along I-75 in Oakland County.
When police spoke with the driver involved, they noted that he seemed to be impaired and "determined he was intoxicated," MSP said.
When the driver mentioned he had a gun in the car, troopers searched the vehicle and found a Tisas 9mm pistol with three loaded 30 round magazines,
Police also found a bottle containing 60 mL of Promethazine — a medication known to cause impairment of motor functions, confusion and blurred vision, among other side effects.
The driver, who did not have a CPL, was arrested and taken to jail.
MSP shared photos of all three guns that were seized.
The names of those charged in these cases were not immediately released.
