Giant Eagle confirms ‘Scan Pay Go’ being dropped at some locations
A check-out feature at select Giant Eagle stores has been winded down as of Monday, the chain confirmed to Pittsburgh’s Action News 4. Giant Eagle said its “Scan Pay Go” feature has been ended for five of its stores. Scan Pay Go allows customers to scan items with their smartphone while shopping, then using that list of items to quickly check out.

Tents coming down at Schenley Plaza encampment
PITTSBURGH — Several tents were taken down and sleeping bags were rolled up Monday at the encampment at Schenley Plaza. The protestors have been camped out on the grass at Schenley Plaza, calling for the University of Pittsburgh to divest from investment ties with the Israeli government and demanding a ceasefire.
Penn Hills man convicted on drug trafficking, firearms offenses
After deliberating for less than two hours, a federal jury found Harry E. Duncan, 36 of Penn Hills, guilty of three counts of violating federal drug and firearms laws on Monday. According to a press release, the verdict included one count each of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, cocaine and crack cocaine; possession of firearms and ammunition by a convicted felon; aiding and abetting the straw purchase of three firearms. Evidence that was presented at trial showed that in the fall of 2022, Duncan was the subject of an investigation by Allegheny County Police narcotics detectives. In November of 2022, detectives served a search warrant on Duncan’s home. Detectives found over 1,000 stamp bags of fentanyl, significant amounts of unpackaged fentanyl powder, powder cocaine and crack cocaine hidden in the ceiling. Detectives also found a large amount of drug packaging materials, scales, cash and 11 different cell phones in Duncan’s basement.
Scammers targeting people over 60, warns FBI Pittsburgh and Highmark
PITTSBURGH — The FBI Pittsburgh field office and Highmark are warning that people over the age of 60 are increasingly falling victim to online and telephone scams. "We're trying to promote education and awareness. We need our senior citizens, their caregivers, their loved ones and their family members to recognize the signs that somebody may be trying to take money from you," said Brooklynn Riordan, FBI supervisory special agent, during a news conference at Highmark on Monday.
