OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A judge has ruled the state can pull red-light cameras near the Oakbrook Center Mall.

Oakbrook Terrace is appealing the decision to allow IDOT to remove the cameras at Route 83 and 22nd Street with the mayor arguing they’ll have to resort to other tools to go after the 230,000 drivers who don’t stop there.

Meanwhile, neighboring Oak Brook applauds the decision with the village president telling the Daily Herald that crash data showed cameras made the intersection less safe and were about revenue generation.

Former Oakbrook Terrace Mayor Tony Ragucci and former State Senator Martin Sandoval pleaded guilty to taking bribes in connection with red light cameras.
