OAK RIDGE, N.C. (WGHP) — A Guilford County deputy was shot on Monday , and the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office is now providing more details on the events that led to the shooting.

GCSO Major Crimes Investigative Unit Captain M. Holder shared new information regarding the shooting on Wednesday afternoon.

Holder says that three deputies came to the 7000 block of Skippers Trace in Oak Ridge at around 1:23 a.m. on Monday, after Andrew Ryan Caetto, 54, of Oak Ridge, called 911.

Deputies found Caetto in the driveway area of the home on Skippers Trace.

Law enforcement had been called to Caetto’s home four times in the last month, according to Holder. Most of those calls involved four-wheelers and dirt bikes being ridden in the neighborhood and were made by Caetto.

Caetto allegedly did not offer any specific reason for why he called law enforcement to the home. He allegedly stated that the deputies “would find out when they get there.”

He allegedly “was somewhat combative and argumentative with the officers.” A physical struggle ensued and one of the officers was shot during the struggle.

Holder says that the physical struggle was “very violent” and led to the firearm being discharged. The struggle is being investigated by the GCSO’s Professional Standards Division

The officer was struck with a 5.56x45mm caliber round, according to Holder.

Both Caetto and the officer were taken to the hospital and have since been released.

Caetto has been arrested and is being charged with felony assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, three counts of assault on a law enforcement officer and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

I hope he gets his day in court because something seems off about this encounter and not everything the sheriff’s office is saying makes sense on why the officers felt compelled to engage the man.
