Mediation still anticipated for Oak Grove neglect and abuse murder suspect

Mediation is still anticipated for at least one of two suspects charged in connection with the 2022 abuse and neglect murder of a man in Oak Grove.

Forty-four-year-old Jacob Gilstrap and 40-year old Ann Harrison of Oak Grove are each charged with murder, abuse, neglect and exploitation.

The original indictments allege that while in a caretaker role, they forced Jacob’s father, 70-year old Anthony Gilstrap, to live alone in deplorable conditions inside a camper outside of their Timberline Circle home between March 1 and July 10 of last year. Medical staff who attempted to save his life reported signs of sepsis, gangrene, an open wound to the bone of the victim’s leg and numerous pressure ulcers consistent with neglect.

Amy Harwood Jackson has been representing Jacob Gilstrap, but is turning over those responsibilities to Renae Tuck due to conflicts in her office. Harwood Jackson says while mediation was agreed upon by she and the Commonwealth, it hasn’t happened as Harrison’s attorney wants a separate hearing.

Judge Andrew Self says mediation with a retired judge can still happen without both suspects using the same hearings.

Judge Self urged the Commonwealth and Tuck to coordinate with the mediator and try to find a date suitable for all in the next few weeks.

In the meantime, the judge scheduled another pre-trial conference for August 9.
