NOVI (WWJ) - A large blaze at a Novi home late Friday evening prompted multiple fire departments to flock to the house -- only to discover a marijuana grow operation in the garage.

Novi Fire Chief Jeff Johnson confirmed with WWJ that they received reports about a structure fire engulfing a home off Taft Road, close to 12 Mile and just north of Fountain Walk in Novi, around 9:30 p.m. on June 2.

Multiple agencies responded to the fire, including firefighters from Farmington Hills, Walled Lake and Northville.

No one was at the home when the fire broke out. Authorities were able to extinguish the flames, but not before authorities stumbled across a marijuana growing operation in the garage.

Novi Fire Chief Jeff Johnson said that the home was being rented out, but he did not release any information on possible suspects. An investigation is still ongoing with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
