Soldier from New Hampshire who died in WWII to be buried next week in Northwood
MANCHESTER, N.H. — Decades after being killed during World War II, a soldier from Northwood will soon be laid to rest. Army Sgt. Richard G. Hammond was 24 when he went missing in action on Feb. 17, 1943, after being struck by an enemy tank shell during a battle with German forces near Sbeitla, Tunisia. Officials said the explosion threw Hammond several yards from the blast site.
