Joe Alt and Benjamin Morrison Are Named Walter Camp Preseason All-Americans
Walter Camp has released its 2023 Preseason All-American team and Notre Dame had two players named to the list. Junior offensive tackle Joe Alt and sophomore cornerback Benjamin Morrison were both named to the squad.
Alt was named to the first team All-American team after earning second team honors after the 2022 season. The Minnesota native was brilliant for the Irish last season and he's expected to emerge as one of the nation's top blockers in 2023, if not the top blocker. Alt earned 2022 first team All-American honors from the Associated Press, CBS Sports, Pro Football Focus and ESPN.
Morrison was named to the second team All-American squad. After earning Freshman All-American honors in 2022, the Arizona native is expected to be one of college football's top cover corners as a sophomore. Morrison is coming off a season in which he picked off six passes and registered 33 tackles.
Nine Notre Dame opponents also earned preseason All-American honors. Ohio State led the way with three selections. Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. and linebacker Tommy Eichenberg earned first team honors, and wideout Emeka Egbuka earned a spot on the second team.
USC also had two players on the list, with quarterback Caleb Williams and safety Calen Bullock earning a spot on the first team. Clemson linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. was named to the first team and fellow linebacker Barrett Carter was named to the second team.
Duke offensive lineman Graham Barton and Stanford placekicker Joshua Karty were also named to the first team.
