Notre Dame is looking to replace a couple of starters on the defensive line this spring with Isaiah Foskey, and the Ademilola brothers, Justin and Jayson, all heading to the NFL Draft.
The back seven, however, will be incredibly experienced with starters returning across the board.
In particular, the Irish have a wealth of experience at linebacker, with three seniors in JD Bertrand, Jack Kiser & Marist Liufau who have 54 combined starts.
Defensive coordinator Al Golden those three have a tremendous amount of input into the way he builds his defense.
"Its almost like being the NFL in the sense that they give you ideas and they share with you where their eyes are and what they see on certain plays," Golden said after Wednesday's practice.
"And sometimes you adapt how you coach things, or how you teach things, or even changes calls based on their strengths. So from that standpoint their feedback is always welcome. We really let them talk a lot and continue a lot in the meting room."
Golden says the three seniors are also very active teaching Notre Dame's three early enrollee freshmen linebackers Drayk Bowen, Preston Zinter and Jaiden Ausberry.
"Second hand coaching: they're constantly giving feedback to the younger guys."
