Ginger Wells-Kay: Unsung volunteer leader for seniors in Belmont
A month after the Community Action Program (CAP) Belmont seniors program terminated in 2020, a senior program re-opened under the legally registered name “Senior Friends of Belmont” that was led by member and activist Sue Roache. The town permitted the group to continue meeting at the Belmont Mill twice weekly so seniors could enjoy companionship, lunch, and programming including games, arts and crafts, movies, visiting nurse association (VNA) monthly visits, a mystery book club, pizza and birthday parties and special events.
Tanger Outlets hosting 4th annual Lakes Region Food Truck Festival this weekend
TILTON — Over a dozen food trucks will join the fourth annual Lakes Region Food Truck Festival, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, at Tanger Outlets, marking Mother’s Day weekend. With no cost to attend, visitors can enjoy food, music and activities provided by the Lakes Region Chamber, Mix 94.1 and Granite State Credit Union.
Canal Street Block Party returns this weekend
LACONIA — The Canal Street Block Party returns to downtown for its second year from 3 to 9 p.m. this Saturday, May 11. After the success of last year, Dan McLaughlin, owner of NH Vintage Vinyl, is bringing block parties back every second Saturday through August. With the collaboration of Celebrate Laconia and other downtown businesses, he’s hoping more people will make their way downtown for fun as the parties continue through the summer.
City council to vote on 2024-25 school budget
LACONIA — City council will hear details of the school district’s proposed budget at their regular meeting on Monday. Superintendent Steven Tucker will present the district’s budget with a 5% increase over last year to councilors at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
