Uber driver held at gunpoint in carjacking in North Haven

NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — On March 1, police received a 911 call from a victim who was carjacked at gunpoint.

The victim, an Uber driver, had picked up a 17-year-old juvenile and 20-year-old Jehki Stewart of Hartford from an address in Hamden and drove them to their destination on North Frontage Road.

When they reached their final destination, one of the suspects brandished a firearm and demanded the victim get out of the car. Despite initial refusal, the situation escalated when one of the suspects fired their weapon, striking the dashboard.

The victim then got out of the car. Following the carjacking, the suspects proceeded to West Haven where they committed an armed robbery at a jewelry store, according to police.

The investigation led to the identification of the two suspects involved.

Stewart was charged with first-degree robbery-firearm threat, conspiracy to commit/first-degree robbery-firearm threat, criminal possession pistol/revolver, first-offense larceny of MV, first-offense conspiracy to commit/larceny of MV, and illegal discharge of firearm.

Stewart was held on a $500k court-set bond, with additional arrests anticipated in the ongoing investigation.
