Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance have awarded WalkerHughes Insurance a 2023 Make More Happen Award for its volunteerism with Fueled for School (F4S).

This nonprofit organization is dedicated to eliminating hunger among Hamilton County students by providing food-insecure youth with nutritious meal packs, promoting the educational value of nutrition, increasing access to local food, and instilling hope.

The award includes an initial donation of $5,000 for Fueled for School, which has been doubled to $10,000 thanks to community supporters voting online at this link.

Running all June, the WalkerHughes Insurance and F4S community giving story will be highlighted online where supporters can vote to help the team reach their donation goal. Now that the featured story has received greater than a mix of 500 votes and comments, the $5,000 donation will be raised to $10,000.

All the funds generated for F4S go straight into the summer meal program and purchasing food for students. The $10,000 donation will sponsor all the children in the program for eight weeks, or it will provide 2,000 weekend meal kits for students in the program. Additionally, the donation will support increasing facility size to store more food.

“Fueled for School is a wonderful organization and doing big work in our community supporting our little kiddos,” said Stephanie Marsh, Director of Client Engagement for WalkerHughes Insurance. “We are grateful to Liberty Mutual and Safeco for providing much-needed funds to continue their impactful work and thrilled at the opportunity to double the donation just by calling on the community to show their support.”

F4S was nominated for the agency’s Charity of the Quarter (COTQ) program by the agency’s Director of Technology Dennis Trusty. The organization is near and dear to his heart and his household as it was founded by his wife, F4S Executive Director and Kindergarten teacher Kristina Trusty. Members of the agency team connected with the nonprofit and its mission to ensure that food relief has a more meaningful, sustainable impact for undernourished students.

Continuing their support year-round, WalkerHughes has sponsored F4S’s annual fundraiser, held food drives, created F4S marketing materials to boost local awareness, volunteered at meal packing events, and given donations for every referral through the COTQ program.

“WalkerHughes Insurance is a shining example of our independent agents’ endless dedication to their nonprofit partners through their volunteering, fundraising and overall awareness efforts,” said Brandi Sheets, Liberty Mutual Insurance Midwest Region Senior Territory Manager. “The Make More Happen Awards allow our agents to spread the word about their good deeds and we hope it inspires other in Indianapolis to get involved.”

Throughout 2023, Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance will select up to 37 independent agents nationwide for a Make More Happen Award donating up to $370,000 to the nonprofits they support. Agencies became eligible for the award by submitting an application and photos demonstrating their commitment to a specific nonprofit.

About Fueled for School
Fueled For School (F4S) eliminates hunger among Hamilton County students by providing food insecure youth with nutritious meal packs, promoting the educational value of nutrition, increasing access to local food, and instilling hope. In doing so, Fueled for School ensures that food relief has a more meaningful, sustainable impact for undernourished students and local producers. Beyond delivering weekend meal packs, F4S aims to keep children fueled during school breaks. During this time, families may participate in the school break program. Participants receive meal boxes that include a variety of nutritious food that will sustain them over the school break.

When students are well nourished, they are better behaved and more focused academically. Strategically communicating the importance of food security and nutrition on the Fueled For Schools website and materials creates the conditions for parents and students alike to embrace nutrition as a means of educational success.
