Superior High’s Jaxson Green, who recently signed to play to football this coming fall at Montana Tech in Butte, made a few Orediggers’ coaches feel pretty good about their new recruit. Green, who recently placed second in the State Class B Western Division shot put championships, is a massive guy who played quarterback at Superior and likes contact. He got the Blue team on the scoreboard first with an opening quarter touchdown pass during the annual Bob Cleverley 8-man football all-star game last week on Tech’s home field. The land had grown deep green alfalfa. Now it hosts the white elegance of the LDS Church, which on this day played host to the soulful rhythms of Hannah Jackson. My brothers and I had picked rock, changed irrigation water, cut and stacked hay on the ground under the chairs where I and other audience members sat. That realization hit as I listened to Hannah, only 19, play mostly music of her own making. The land remains, serves yet another purpose and life goes on. Sanders County wildfire protection plan earmarked for funding
For communities that face a high risk of wildfires, additional money is being released from the Forest Service. Up to $250 million in Community Wildfire Defense grants for selected vulnerable areas is earmarked to be dispersed, with $5.3 million of the total going to the Northern Region. “The Community Wildfire Defense Grants are just one of many ways we are helping communities adapt to larger, more complex and more frequent wildfires,” said Deputy Agriculture Secretary Xochitl Torres Small.A total of four projects were funded in the Northern Region and all are in Montana.
