DELMAR, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Law enforcement said there is no imminent safety issue to the Bethlehem Central School District after a series of phone threats were made against the district. Local police and agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation are investigating the calls as swatting.

Swatting is deliberately reporting a false crime in an effort to cause a large police response at the intended target. Police told the school district they are now focusing their investigation outside of the Capital Region. Law enforcement said there is no evidence of a local connection between the caller and the school district.

Phone threats were made against the district between September 10 and 12. An increased police presence canceled afterschool activities, and precautionary lockouts were conducted in the district as a result.

Superintendent Jody Monroe said an increased police presence will continue for the rest of the week. Afterschool activities, outdoor recess and physical education will resume on Tuesday.
