Country music artists Kelsea Ballerini and Morgan Evans tied the knot on December 2, 2017 in beautiful Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. After exchanging their vows, the pair and their wedding guests did a shot of tequila together.
“It’s a little bit different,” Ballerini shared with PEOPLE, “but that’s how we started.”
You see, the couple first met while co-hosting a country music award show together in Australia.
“He was like, ‘Let’s take a shot,’” she recalls of the event’s after party. “I remember taking that shot and putting it down and looking at him like, ‘Oh…he’s superhot.’ Later that night he leaned over and asked if he could kiss me, like a proper gentleman, and I said yes.”
The pair wasted no time getting to the alter less than two years after they first met. While their wedding planner handled most of the wedding to-do list, the pair focused on personalizing their special day and provided their own handwritten vows.
“Kelsea’s vows were, as you would expect, poetic, sweet — like, mindblowingly good. our officiant was like, ‘Hey, Morgan, beat that!’” quipped Evans. “I said mine, and I was going to finish with a few lines of the first song I wrote for her [‘Dance with Me’]. I got halfway through them, and she started to lose it, then I started to lose it — so I ended up having to cut it a little bit short!”
Following the wedding festivities, the newlyweds and their guests ended the night by jumping into a swimming pool!
