For the Reporter/Caroline Simmons</figcaption></figure>The Oak Mountain Eagles have taken their fair share of losses over the last few seasons, but they are motivated and confident that their togetherness and determination will help them grow throughout the season.“Every season’s different,” Oak Mountain coach Aimee Harris said. “We're going to try to be the best team that we are right now with the girls that we have. So, I'm excited about this group. They work really hard. They're committed. So, I'm excited to see where we're going to go this season.”The Eagles return plenty of experience from last season with players like Vivian Harris and Caron and Gracie Lunceford serving as key leaders, with Carson coming back from a torn ACL. Jillian Lind has been another player that stepped up into a big leadership role and provides a key deep-ball aspect.AC Oxford and Hallie Kelly come in from volleyball season and have worked hard to stretch the floor for Oak Mountain on the basketball court. Nylah Cook rounds out the key returners as a big-time post presence. On the court, expect the Eagles to balance pushing the pace with a measured approach as they seek to make good decisions even as they look to capitalize on turnovers and advantages.“I like to play fast. That's not really changing,” Harris said. “So we'll continue to push that, just playing with pace, but also wanting to be smart and execute when we need to.”Carson said that the struggles of the previous seasons taught them a lot of what they can improve on to be better. She hopes that they play well as a team and maximize transition chances to be their best on the court.“I feel like every loss has had some sort of aspect of a learning curve to it, whether that was, we were lacking on communication, or we didn't sprint, or just whatever, or transition, or whatever the thing was,” Carson said. “I feel like each one has had a learning opportunity that has given us the chance to get better, and I think we're just excited to bring that to the season this year.”Harris hopes that they rely on their togetherness to forge their identity on the court, one where they fight for every ball and leave it all out on the court.“Our grittiness will be a team strength,” Harris said. “I think just everyone on the team knowing they've got to be a threat and they've got to work together too. Each and every person's got to contribute in their own way. I think that's going to be a strength where it's not one kid the whole time. It's going to be a good mix of the whole group just gelling and then becoming more of a group together to be a force.”Overall though, the Eagles want to give their best each and every day and let the results take care of themselves. Their biggest goal is getting better throughout the season and not leaving anything behind.“I think the playing together, that can be an advantage that we have,” Harris said. “The chemistry that we're trying to build, that can definitely be an advantage. And just for me, continuing to encourage our girls to step in with confidence, because they put in the work, and now it's time for them to bring it.”Oak Mountain started the season 2-0 with wins over Calera and McAdory, and the Eagles will next host Tuscaloosa County on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at noon.</div></body>
