She repeats it over and over until she is ready to record it for her application video. This is only one step of Rodeck’s journey to getting recruited to dance in college.Rodeck is currently in the process of getting recruited for college dance. She has been in contact with D1 schools such as Tulane University, Ball State University and University of Memphis. “Tulane invited me for a recruiting visit in the spring… Ball State University gave me a final audition pass… and University of Memphis invited me to their fall intensive,” Rodeck said. The final audition pass from Ball State allows Rodeck to skip past the first rounds of auditions where cuts are made, and instead go straight to the audition with the final group of dancers being considered for the team. The most common method of getting recruited is through direct applications as well as attending college clinics.“A majority of colleges will have a common dance application; kind of like the common app for regular college applications, but it’s for dance,” Rodeck said. The actual application requires a lot of content. “There’s a mix of required and optional skills, and then a jazz, hip-hop and pom combo that are each around 45 seconds,” Rodeck said. Rodeck has also been to several clinics.“The dance clinics are a good way to get yourself out there so that when they see your application, they’ll be able to recognize you from the clinic. It’s also a great way to reach out to the coaches and the team, which has really helped me out too,” Rodeck said. DGS varsity dance team coach Dawn Jovic has been assisting Rodeck with her recruitment process.“She’s great. She’s been very determined. She’s been asking me to help her for years with what kind of skills she should work on. It really shows her commitment level,” Jovic said. Rodeck has been a member of the varsity dance team at DGS since her sophomore year, helping the team qualify for state two times. Jovic speaks about her role on the team.“She’s a reliable team member. Even when we give her a skill that she’s not super confident with, she’ll just keep working and working until she gets it right,” Jovic said. Rodeck also trains at a studio outside of DGS with a separate team– The EDS Legacies, formerly known as DLD. Just this year, she has helped the legacies take first place at three separate competitions. She has also been to World of Dance several times, taking second place in 2024 and third in 2025. Rodeck will be competing with the DGS varsity team at their first competition on Nov. 21. </div></body>
