These students are not being accounted for, thus creating safety concerns and additional difficulty during emergencies such as fire drills and secure campuses.“While we understand that having Open Campus is a privilege, we also have a responsibility to ensure the safety and security of every student in our building,” Rich said. While the administration does not want to eliminate Open Campus entirely, some measures are being taken to ensure that the rules and regulations are being upheld by students. If a student is caught inside the school without prior authorization from their house office or a Securly pass from a teacher, they “will be reported to their House Office, and their Open Campus privilege will be revoked. Students will be assigned to a supervised study location where they can be appropriately accounted for during that period,” Rich said. If more problems regarding Open Campus arise, more drastic actions will be taken, including the possibility of eliminating Open Campus. However, this is not the goal of the administration. They would like to continue offering this privilege to upperclassmen but must take safety precautions seriously.By following these guidelines and taking responsibility to get approval, students can continue to appreciate their Open Campus periods while helping maintain security. </div></body>
