(WLFI) - The stakes are high Friday night as the Indiana high school football playoffs continue, with sectional championships on the line. Sports 18’s Game of the Week features a regular season rematch as the West Lafayette Red Devils take on the Hamilton Heights Huskies.West Lafayette has found another gear in the postseason, rolling through its first two playoff opponents. The Red Devils opened with a dominant 49-14 victory over Northwestern before taking down previously undefeated Maconaquah 54-26 in the regional semifinals.A major reason for West Lafayette’s postseason success has been the return of running back Kojo Steffey. The do-it-all back has totaled 363 rushing yards and six touchdowns on eight yards per carry through the Red Devils’ first two playoff games.Quarterback Blake Biddle and the West Lafayette passing attack have also been clicking. But standing in their way is a Hamilton Heights team that handed West Lafayette a 38-0 loss just a few weeks ago.“The class of ’27, these seniors, they want this. This is what a lot of these guys grew up seeing is us playing in championship games and winning them,” Red Devils head coach Shane Fry said. “I would be so happy for our seniors to be able to get a victory on their home field for a sectional championship, but it’s a tough test.”Fry acknowledged the challenge after the teams’ previous meeting, saying West Lafayette will need to be “much, much better” to have a chance.Biddle said the Red Devils are motivated to prove their doubters wrong after a regular season that didn’t go as planned.“We’ve been kind of doubted our whole year,” Biddle said. “A lot of people turned their heads at us, but we’re ready to make some attention now and get that trophy.”Hamilton Heights has taken a different path to the sectional championship game, but the Huskies have found a way to get the job done.Heights survived a first-round thriller against Mississinewa 47-40, before delivering a more convincing 30-6 win over Western in the semifinals.Quarterback Lucas Whitaker has been a standout throughout the season, leading the Huskies’ offense with a strong year under center. On the defensive side, linebacker Sam Sigler is a player to watch as Hamilton Heights looks to slow down West Lafayette’s explosive offense. The Huskies will enter Friday’s matchup with confidence after shutting out the Red Devils in their October meeting. The two programs have met six times, with West Lafayette holding a 4-2 lead in the all-time series.Their most recent matchup came October 16, when Hamilton Heights shut out West Side 38-0. That marked the Huskies’ first win over West Lafayette in the series since 2004.The Red Devils won the first meeting between the programs back in 1990, the only previous postseason meeting between the two teams. Now, with a sectional championship on the line, West Lafayette will have an opportunity to avenge its regular-season loss and bring home a sectional crown.</div></body>
