If you’ve been spending your fall weekends doing literally anything other than driving out to Jordan, Minnesota, then this article is about to make you feel very sorry about your choices.Ferguson’s Minnesota Harvest is the kind of place that exists in your imagination as the perfect fall destination, except it’s completely real and it’s only about an hour from the Twin Cities.

A weather vane, a cupola, and a sign that says “Country Store.” Norman Rockwell would absolutely approve of this place. Photo credit: Don Fuller

Let’s start with the apple cider donut, because that’s the thing people talk about in hushed, reverent tones after they’ve been here. You know how some foods just hit differently than everything else you’ve ever eaten in the same category? That’s what happens at Ferguson’s Minnesota Harvest. You take one bite of their apple cider donut and your brain quietly files every other donut you’ve ever eaten under “practice rounds.”The cinnamon sugar coating on the outside gives way to a soft, apple-flavored interior that manages to taste like fall itself somehow decided to become a baked good.

Wooden crates stacked with Ruby Mac apples greet you at the door, and suddenly grocery store produce feels deeply inadequate. Photo credit: Corrie B.

It’s warm, it’s fragrant, and it has that perfect texture that makes you stop whatever you’re doing and just focus entirely on the donut.Conversations pause.Phones go back into pockets. The donut gets the full and undivided attention it deserves. You can order a single donut, a half dozen, or a full dozen, and the math here is pretty straightforward.A single donut is for people who have never had one of these before and don’t yet understand what they’re dealing with.

A bakery menu this good deserves its own frame. Apple cider donuts, caramel apples, pumpkin bread. Someone here really likes you. Photo credit: Deena Milner

A half dozen is for people who are trying to be reasonable and will immediately regret it.A full dozen is for people who have either been here before or who simply trust the process.Trust the process. Now, the apple cider donut is the headliner, but Ferguson’s Minnesota Harvest is a full show, and it would be a shame to drive all the way out to Jordan and not take in the whole experience. The first thing that hits you when you pull up is the barn.

A full tray of apple cider donuts, golden and dusted with cinnamon sugar, is basically autumn in its most perfect physical form. Photo credit: Chris Webster

It’s a big, gorgeous, deeply red barn with white-trimmed windows and a metal roof, and it sits in the middle of a green lawn with a wooden fence running along the front. There’s a vintage red tractor parked off to the side that looks like it belongs on the cover of a calendar about beautiful Minnesota farms. The whole scene is so perfectly composed that you’ll find yourself standing next to your car for a moment just taking it in before you even think about walking toward the entrance.Go ahead and take that moment.

A cider flight featuring lemon, pear, guava, and more is the kind of tasting experience that makes you feel genuinely sophisticated. Photo credit: Yvette B.

You’ve been staring at a computer screen all week. You’ve earned a moment of standing in a field looking at a beautiful red barn. The sky above Jordan in October does things that the sky above a parking garage simply cannot do, and that’s worth acknowledging.Walking up to the entrance, you start to notice the details that make Ferguson’s feel like a place that genuinely cares about the experience it’s creating. The grounds are well-kept, the signage is clear and inviting, and there’s an energy to the place that feels festive without being overwhelming.

Flaky, glazed, and sitting next to a cold cup of cider. That apple pastry twist is living its absolute best life. Photo credit: Brinda S.

It’s busy in the way that good places are busy, with people who are clearly happy to be there rather than people who are stressed and in a hurry.Inside the farm store, the first thing you notice is the apples.Big wooden bins filled with fresh-picked apples greet you right at the entrance, and they look exactly like the kind of apples that show up in paintings of harvest scenes.Ruby Mac apples are among the varieties you’ll find here, and they have that deep, saturated red color that makes them look almost too good to be real.

A slice of apple pie this generous and golden-crusted deserves a standing ovation, or at minimum, a very respectful second helping. Photo credit: Solomon N.

They are real, though.Very real, and very good. The store itself has a warm, open feel with wooden shelving units displaying locally made products alongside the fresh fruit. There’s a chandelier overhead that gives the space a golden glow, and the combination of rustic wooden elements with the clean, open layout of the building creates an atmosphere that feels both comfortable and special. It’s the kind of interior that makes you want to slow down and look at everything rather than rushing through to get to the checkout.Which is good, because there’s a lot worth looking at.The bakery menu is displayed on a large red menu board, and reading through it is one of the more enjoyable things you’ll do on a fall Saturday.

Nobody expects to find a loaded, bubbling pizza at an apple orchard, and yet here we are, pleasantly surprised and very hungry. Photo credit: Yvette B.

Apple turnovers come in two varieties: one with icing and one with sea salt caramel. Both of those options are the kind of thing that sounds good when you read them and then tastes even better than it sounded, which is the best possible outcome for any food item. The apple pastry twist is another item that deserves your attention. It’s flaky and apple-forward and the kind of thing you eat while wandering around the orchard and feel completely at peace with every decision you’ve ever made.Pumpkin bread is on the menu as well, and it comes in multiple versions to accommodate different dietary needs. You can get it with icing, without icing, gluten-free, or gluten-free and dairy-free, which is a level of thoughtfulness that a lot of places simply don’t bother with. The cookies are classic and straightforward: sugar, oatmeal raisin, and peanut butter.

Two caramel apples in clear packaging, one with candy corn and one with peanuts, are fall’s most photogenic and delicious souvenirs. Photo credit: Déjà J.

There’s something deeply satisfying about a place that does classic things well without trying to reinvent them, and Ferguson’s understands this.A good peanut butter cookie is a good peanut butter cookie, and there’s no need to complicate it.The caramel apples at Ferguson’s are their own category of excellent, and they deserve a proper introduction. You can get a plain caramel apple if you’re a purist, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. But if you’re feeling adventurous, the options expand considerably.Peanuts, M&M’s, candy corn (available late September), and dark chocolate sea salt are all available as toppings, and each one of them is a legitimate reason to get excited. The dark chocolate sea salt caramel apple is the kind of thing that sounds like it was invented by someone who sat down specifically to think about what would make a caramel apple as good as it could possibly be.They succeeded.

That glass display case is basically a greatest hits album of baked goods. Every item in there is a reason to celebrate. Photo credit: John O’Sullivan

Apple pie is also available, and at Ferguson’s this is not a casual offering. You can get a baked apple pie, a frozen apple pie to take home, or a slice right there on the spot. The frozen pie option is one of those decisions that feels practical and sensible in the moment and then feels absolutely inspired later when you pull it out of the oven on a random weeknight and your entire home smells like a fall orchard.Your neighbors will wonder what’s going on over there. You don’t have to tell them. And then there’s the apple cider, which comes hot or cold and is the perfect companion to everything else on the menu.Hot apple cider on a cool fall day at a Minnesota orchard is one of those combinations that sounds simple but delivers something that feels genuinely restorative. It’s the kind of drink that makes you put your phone away and just sit with the experience for a minute. That’s increasingly rare and increasingly valuable.

Jams, syrups, and locally made goods arranged on wooden tables make the country store feel like the world’s most delicious treasure hunt. Photo credit: Corrie B.

Ferguson’s Minnesota Harvest works as a destination because it understands something that a lot of places miss: the experience around the food matters just as much as the food itself. The setting, the atmosphere, the smell of apples and cinnamon in the air, the sight of that big red barn against a gray October sky, all of it adds up to something that’s greater than the sum of its parts. You’re not just buying donuts and apples. You’re buying a morning that you’ll actually remember. That’s a good deal.Families with kids find this place particularly magical, and it’s not hard to understand why.For a child who has only ever encountered apples in a grocery store produce section, arriving at a real working orchard is a genuinely revelatory experience. The apples are on trees. The donuts are made right there.

The bakery counter glows warmly beneath orb chandeliers, with apple cider donuts front and center where they absolutely belong. Photo credit: Corrie B.

The caramel apples have M&M’s on them. From a kid’s perspective, this is basically paradise. From an adult’s perspective, it’s also pretty close to paradise, just with slightly different priorities. The adults are more focused on the hot cider and the apple pie, but the enthusiasm level is roughly the same. The drive out to Jordan is also part of the experience, and this is something worth embracing rather than just tolerating.Leaving the Twin Cities metro behind and heading out into Scott County, the landscape opens up in a way that feels like a genuine exhale. The fields stretch out on either side of the road, the sky gets bigger, and the whole pace of things seems to slow down in a way that’s genuinely good for you.By the time you pull into Ferguson’s Minnesota Harvest, you’ve already started to decompress, and the orchard just finishes the job.

The Craft Cider Bar looks cool, feels welcoming, and serves the kind of drinks that make you want to pull up a stool and stay awhile. Photo credit: Corrie B.

It’s a complete experience from the moment you leave your driveway to the moment you drive home with a box of donuts on the passenger seat. The farm store is also worth spending time in beyond just the bakery section. The locally made jams, syrups, and other products on the wooden shelves are the kind of thing that makes excellent gifts for people you actually want to give good gifts to.Showing up somewhere with a jar of something from a real Minnesota orchard is a move that communicates thoughtfulness and good taste simultaneously. It’s a strong play. The menu at Ferguson’s is also worth appreciating for what it doesn’t do.It doesn’t try to be everything to everyone. It doesn’t have forty-seven items that stretch the kitchen thin and result in mediocre versions of too many things.

A stone fireplace, red leather chairs, and a cozy couch. This sitting area is where you go to feel genuinely at peace with everything. Photo credit: Jared Weniger

It’s a focused, purposeful menu where every item has clearly been thought through and executed with care. That kind of restraint is actually harder to pull off than it looks, and it results in a place where you can order almost anything and feel confident that it’s going to be good. The apple cider donut is the best apple cider donut you’ll ever taste in your life, but the apple turnover with sea salt caramel is not far behind. The caramel apple with dark chocolate sea salt is doing things that caramel apples don’t usually do.The hot apple cider is exactly what hot apple cider should be.Everything at Ferguson’s Minnesota Harvest is operating at a level that makes you want to come back before you’ve even finished your first visit. That’s the mark of a place that’s doing something right.Fall in Minnesota is one of the genuinely great seasonal experiences available anywhere in the country, and it’s finite.

Burgundy umbrellas, blooming flowers, and ivy-covered stone walls make this outdoor patio the most charming place to enjoy a cider in all of Minnesota. Photo credit: Jared Weniger

The leaves don’t stay on the trees forever. The apple cider donut season has a beginning and an end, and the end comes faster than you expect.Every year, people tell themselves they’ll get out to the orchard this fall, and then suddenly it’s November and the moment has passed and they’re standing in a grocery store looking at apples under fluorescent lights feeling vaguely sad about it.Don’t be that person this year.Jordan is not far.The red barn is waiting. The donuts are warm.Visit Ferguson’s Minnesota Harvest website and Facebook page for current hours, seasonal updates, and everything you need to plan your trip out to Jordan.Use this map to get yourself there without any unnecessary detours.

Where: 8251 Old Hwy 169 Blvd, Jordan, MN 55352Fall doesn’t wait around, the donuts are better than you’re imagining right now, and Ferguson’s Minnesota Harvest is exactly the kind of place that makes a Saturday feel like it was well spent.Go get your dozen.
