Just like in the regular season meeting, the third-seeded Bridgeport Indians could not break down the defense of the No. 2 Greenbrier East Spartans, falling by the same 1-0 scoreline, this time at the Paul Cline YMCA Sports Complex in Beckley in the Class AAA state semifinals."(Greenbrier East) did a nice job of keeping the ball in front of them, which is really tough to do, especially with a girl like Lindsey (Callahan) up front. We've got some speed on the outside as well but they just did a really nice job of keeping the ball in front of them," Bridgeport coach Keith Dumas said. Both teams struggled to create opportunities in the first half.Allie Wilson had a clearance in front of her own goal for Bridgeport in the 13th minute, then a subsequent Tribe attack produced a corner kick but no clear shot attempt.

Three minutes after the break, Callahan nearly got onto a loose ball, but Greenbrier East goalkeeper Adeline Vickers smothered just in time. The breakthrough came in the 50th minute when Ava Workman's initial shot was saved by Bridgeport goalkeeper Macie Dotson, but Lyla Brown was there to pounce on the rebound.Bridgeport had a good surge right after the goal, with Callahan cutting inside from the right to fire a low shot that Vickers saved, but the Spartans retook control of the match, only giving up a few counterattacks over the next 30 minutes."They never let us get off a clean shot. They were pressuring every ball and they did what they had to do," Dumas said. "Every time (Lindsey) beat one, there's another one sititng there. Their coach told me at the end that, 'Yeah, we knew we were not going to let her get away from us. We're not going to let her beat us.'"Bridgeport was held to 4 shots, 2 on goal, and just 1 corner kick to Greenbrier East's 9 shots, 4 on target and 8 corner kicks. In the first semifinal, 2-time defending champion East Fairmont crushed Charleston Catholic, 9-1, thanks to a hat trick from Carly Manchin and 2-goal games from Lily Larnerd and Sara Noechel. The championship game is Sunday, 45 minutes after the 10:30 a.m. boys match between No. 1 Nitro and No. 2 Bridgeport ends.
