The milestone marks the next chapter for the organization that is committed to creating a modern, accessible facility to serve children, families, seniors, and individuals throughout the North Country. "This is a day our community has been waiting a long time to see," said Molly Ryan, Chief Volunteer Officer. "The YMCA’s families and supporters have continued to believe in this vision and have continued to ask us to move forward. Today, we get to say: we're moving forward."The project will transform the former CVPH Wellness Center into a refreshed and revitalized YMCA featuring expanded opportunities for swimming, health and wellness, recreation, youth programming, and community activities. A major highlight is the renovation of the existing pool, supported by $4.5 million in state funding secured with the support of New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and former Assemblyman Billy Jones. The renovated aquatic center will expand access to swimming, swim instruction, water safety, lifeguard training, recreation, and wellness for all ages.“I have been proud to support the Plattsburgh YMCA’s vision for a new facility since the project began eight years ago,” said former Assemblyman Billy Jones. “Excited that it is becoming a reality and will soon be the community hub the North Country has been hoping for. The YMCA provides essential programs and services that strengthen our communities and support families throughout the North Country. I am pleased to see this vision moving closer to reality and look forward to the lasting impact this new facility will have for generations to come.”The YMCA has raised over $12 million through a combination of community contributions, state and federal funding. This total includes the previously mentioned $4.5 million in state funding for the aquatics portion of the project. The YMCA is extremely grateful for all the donors, families, businesses, foundations, and community partners whose support has helped bring this vision to life."This project has never been about a building," said Stephanie Purcell, COO. "It has always been about what happens inside it. Children learn to swim, families find connections, people improve their health, young people find a place to belong, and generations of North Country residents will benefit from this investment."The new YMCA facility comes at a critical time for the North Country, addressing a growing need for accessible fitness, recreation, and wellness opportunities while expanding the YMCA’s ability to serve individuals and families throughout the region."We know our community wants this," added Ryan. "They have told us this for years. They have supported us with their time, their resources, and their belief in what a YMCA can mean for this region. This ceremonial groundbreaking is our opportunity to thank them and to get to work."While the work on the facility won’t begin until January, the Nov. 12 ceremony will bring together YMCA leadership, donors, community members, elected officials, and project partners to celebrate this milestone and mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the YMCA of the North Country.</div></body>
