<div>A Washington Court House was sentenced to community control last week after pleading guilty to a tampering with records charge related to her public employment.As previously reported, Amber Schiller, 41, was indicted by a Clinton County grand jury on two counts of theft in office, both third-degree felonies, and two counts of tampering with records, both fourth-degree felonies, in April 2025.Schiller pleaded guilty to a reduced count of tampering with records, a first-degree misdemeanor, in July. The remaining charges were dismissed.All four counts were for offenses that allegedly occurred between June 3 and Sept. 25, 2024. The value allegedly “involved in the offense or the loss” was listed as being between $7,500 and $150,000 in the indictment.Schiller had previously been employed with the Alternatives to Violence Center, which serves Clinton and Highland counties, and with the City of Wilmington, according to a bill of particulars. It was alleged that the charges “stem from a continuing course of fraudulent conduct during her dual employment” with those two offices.The bill of particulars alleged that during that time frame in 2024, Schiller “created or caused to be created falsified time records” with “overlapping hours” between the two offices.During a sentencing hearing Oct. 30, Clinton County Common Pleas Court Judge Andrew McCoy sentenced Schiller to two years of community control. Schiller was also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine, complete 80 hours of community service and pay all court costs. McCoy also ordered Schiller to pay $999 in restitution.“The Court finds the requests for restitution are not supported by competent and credible evidence and are therefore unproven by a preponderance of the evidence,” the sentencing entry says. “Many damages as alleged are consequential or not proximately caused, or in some instances not related to, or caused by, the conduct to which Defendant [pleaded] guilty.”</div>
