VANCLEAVE, Miss. (WLOX) — Longtime Coast businessman and philanthropist Butch Oustalet was honored at the Home of Grace addiction recovery center with a new shaded pavilion named after the Oustalet family. Oustalet has supported the center for more than 20 years.

Pavilion stands over restored bell

In July, Oustalet funded the restoration of the Home of Grace bell to honor Dub Herring, the friend who first introduced him to the center.

“It shows Butch’s heart that he wanted to do this beautiful bell for Dub Herring, someone who meant so much to him,” said Josh Barton, Home of Grace executive director.

Following that, Oustalet’s family and friends rallied to create a pavilion and prayer garden for clients seeking a second chance.

The pavilion now stands over the bell and is permanently dedicated in the Oustalet family’s name.

“The really cool factor for this: all the men that come through Home of Grace will be able to sit under the shade with their families as they’re going through their own restorations. So we’re grateful,” Barton said.

Cottages have served more than 2,000 men

Barton said Oustalet built a couple of the cottages at Home of Grace in 2003.

“So those two cottages have served over 2,000 men. Some 2,000-plus people have never known Butch, but have been able to get the fruit of the work that he’s done for Home of Grace,” Barton said.

Leaders and family speak at dedication

Proclamations from leaders were presented at the dedication ceremony, including Gulfport Mayor Hugh Keating, Biloxi Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich and Congressman Mike Ezell.

Butch Oustalet is receiving a proclamation from Congressman Mike Ezell. (WLOX)

Oustalet’s nephew, Joel Oustalet, went through the Home of Grace program in 2019 and served as a lead counselor. He said his family’s involvement and support were the main reason he got sober.

“It’s such a blessing for us because I’ve had the opportunity to first-hand see the fruits of all of his labor—not only in my life, but in countless other men and women that he’s helped get through,” Joel Oustalet said.

The hope is that the pavilion brings peace and shade to those in recovery and shares Oustalet’s impact with future generations.

See a spelling or grammar error in this story?
