Scattered showers will move west to east across the state this afternoon. The shower activity is expected to be light with most areas only picking up a couple hundredths of an inch of rain at best. Mild air ahead of the front will allow temperatures to top off in the 60s to near 70°. The cold front will move into the state tonight then stall out near the coast Friday morning. We may see a few showers as the front moves through tonight... especially closer to the coast. Our Friday will feature mostly cloudy skies on average with the best chance for some sunshine being over northern locales. The aforementioned cold front will be stalled out near the coastline. Low pressure riding northward along the front will bring increasing rain chances to areas closer to... and along... the coast during the afternoon and evening. Areas north of Bangor will see a dry day. Temperatures will remain mild with highs in the 60s Friday afternoon. Rain will spread further inland Friday night as low pressure continues to ride northward along the front. It looks like the rain will be confined to areas along and to the south and east of I-95 with the heaviest rain falling near the coastline. At this point... little to no rain is expected for areas north and west of the interstate. Rain will continue Saturday morning... tapering off from west to east as the low moves to our east. We may see a few scattered showers sticking around Saturday afternoon otherwise expect mostly cloudy skies and drier conditions for the second half of our Saturday. Temperatures will be cooler Saturday with highs in the 50s. Rainfall totals by early Saturday afternoon will range from around .5″-1.5″ Downeast and along the coast with locally higher amounts closer to 2″ possible along the coast. Amounts will quickly taper off to less than .5″ as you head further inland. Little to no rain expected north and west of I-95. Upper-level energy coming out of the Great Lakes Region Friday night will cause a new area of low pressure to develop near the Mid-Atlantic Region Saturday morning. This new low is forecast to move northward through the Gulf of Maine later Saturday through Saturday night and Sunday morning. The exact track is still a bit uncertain with some of the data bringing the low closer to the coast and some tracking it further offshore. A track closer to the coast would mean a more widespread rainfall whereas a track further offshore would focus the rain over areas south and east of the interstate again. Stay tuned for updates as we get a bit closer. Drier and cooler weather is expected Monday. Upper-level energy moving through could bring a few rain and snow showers to northern locales otherwise expect a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the 40s. Rest of Today: Turning cloudy with scattered showers possible. Highs between 62°-68°... coolest along the coast. South/southwest wind 5-15 MPH. Tonight: Partly to mostly cloudy. A few scattered showers possible... mainly closer to the coast. Lows in the 50s. Southwest wind 5-10 MPH. Friday: Partly to mostly cloudy with rain possible during the afternoon and evening... especially closer to the coast. Highs in the 60s. Light and variable wind. Saturday: Mostly cloudy with rain likely during the morning... especially along and to the south and east of I-95 then scattered showers possible during the afternoon. Cooler with highs in the 50s. Sunday: Mostly cloudy with rain likely... mainly during the morning. Highs in the upper 40s to low 50s. Monday: Mix of sun and clouds. A few rain and snow showers possible across the north.
