But here in LA, it takes 8,” firefighters featured in a “Yes on Measure FD” campaign commercial said, claiming the funds generated through the measure would be used to hire more firefighters and paramedics while improving 911 and wildfire response times.Although a tax increase could be a concern for voters amid the high cost of living and inflation, supporters pointed out that other LA County cities, including Burbank and Pasadena, already have sales tax rates of 10.25% or more.<blockquote>See more results from the 2026 California election</blockquote>Supporters of Measure FD included LA Mayor Karen Bass and Councilmember Traci Park, whose district includes Pacific Palisades, which was devastated by the Palisades Fire in 2025.The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association was the designated author of the ballot argument against Measure FD, according to the Los Angeles City Clerk. The half-cent sales tax increase could take effect as early as April 1, 2027, following voter approval and certification of the election results."We're grateful and humbled by the support we've received from LA City voters," said Doug Coates, president of the United Firefighters of Los Angeles City. "When they call, we show up. Now, they’ve answered our call for help."</div></body>
