<body><div><h2>FUN WITH MAPS ISSUE 2026-180</h2><p><b>LOVELAND, OH (November 4, 2026) –</b> In Fun with Maps today, we learn a little about rediscovery of a famous Boy King. </p><h2>King Tut</h2><p>Tutankhamen’s tomb (coded KV62) was rediscovered on November 4, 1922, in the Valley of the Kings by Howard Carter’s excavation party.</p><p>Most do know the history of the boy pharaoh who died at age 19.</p><p>However, there are at least two popular misbeliefs associated with King Tut and his burial place. </p><p>The first is that his tomb was intact. The evidence shows that there were grave robbers vising the tomb before Carter but did not take much and did not disturb it significantly. There are only three known undisturbed royal tombs in ancient Egypt.</p><p>The second misbelief relates to the curse on Howard Carter and his party opening the tombs. In popular culture this potentially stemmed from two events soon after King Tut’s rediscovery. The first is finding a cobra in the birdcage at Carter’s Egyptian residence, with the canary eaten, noting that the cobra is a symbol of royalty. Also, the exhibition’s financial sponsor, Lord Carnarvon, died soon after discovering King Tut. The good Lord died of blood poisoning after he accidentally cut himself.</p><p>Teesdale created this map of Egypt in 1831.
