It hit me like a ton of bricks that the Dane County's Journey Mental Health Center, led by the heroic Sarah Valencia, is not being reimbursed properly. For the last year we have depended on their staff to get us through some very rough times. Our adult son, who has a profoundly disabling schizophrenia, depends on regular anti-psychotic medication and psychiatric oversight to help him live in the same reality as everyone else.My spouse and myself are over 70 and starting to realize that we can't help him as much as he needs.Politicians and decision makers, you must realign your priorities. Journey is a unique and highly trained safety net. Pay Journey their back dues. Better yet, in addition to paying those bills, pay interest and penalty charges.In closing, remember this biblical quote:“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2.Financially support Journey to carry burdens that no one else is strong enough to hold. If you can't support them, you are turning your back on Christianity and human reverence, passing the buck, and condemning the afflicted to an even deeper hell on Earth.
