That’s just sometimes how it goes.”Kingsley-Pierson delighted the home crowd by bolting to a 14-0 lead five minutes into the contest.Eli Schroeder, who passed for 324 yards and five touchdowns, got the Panthers on the board with a 31-yard pass to Sam Doeschoet. Doeschoet, who also had two interceptions, returned a punt 61 yards to paydirt with 4:38 left in the first quarter and Porter Hackett added a two-point conversion run.North Union quickly retaliated, scoring 20 unanswered points, taking a six-point lead with five minutes left in the half.Doeschot picked off a pass, setting up the go-ahead score for K-P on an 11-yard run by Schroeder, a sophomore. The Panthers broke for halftime with a 22-20 advantage.North Union, though, erupted for 27 points in a back-and-forth third quarter. When the Warriors went up 33-30 with 4:38 left in the stanza, it was the fourth lead change of the contest.Schroeder had a 30-yard touchdown pass to Wyatt Klaschen to put K-P back in front, but North Union’s 6-foot-3, 190-pound quarterback Greyson Colegrove made it 33-30 at the 4:38 mark.It was 47-36 heading into the fourth quarter before the Panthers scored again on an 8-yard pass from Schroeder to Doeschot with 9:20 left in the game.After another North Union TD, Schroeder tossed s 17-yard scoring pass to Hackett with 5:03 remaining, pulling the Panthers within 54-50.Colegrove took off on another of his six touchdown runs at the 4:30 mark, the sixth touchdown in seven North Union possessions. The Warriors then recovered an onside kick, the ball taking a high bounce off the turf and over a K-P player, then wrapped up the scoring on a 65-yard scamper by Colegrove.“They made some adjustments at halftime, but I felt our offense was humming pretty good,” said Neumann. “But, unfortunately, they had a couple of back-to-back possessions where they got one-play scoring drives. That puts a strain on a team.”“I thought our guys did a good job of continuing to stay in the fight. Their quarterback was a tough guy to bring down and as the game went on they wore us down.”Schroeder was 22 of 38 for 324 yards and added 59 rushing yards for a total of 383. Doeschot, who was hobbling by the end of the game, had nine catches for 87 yards and two touchdowns, while Klaschen amassed 161 receiving yards on six catches for two touchdowns in his final high school game.Darius Rasmussen rushed for a team-high 79 yards on 11 carries.Kayden Bottorff-Beeson had a team-high 9.5 tackles, 3.5 for loss. Klaschen tacked on nine tackles and Doeschot 6.5 to go along with his two interceptions and long punt return for a touchdown.North Union’s Colegrove rushed for 179 yards (21 carries) and six touchdowns and passed for 154 yards and three more touchdowns.Despite the loss, it was a highly successful season for District 1 champion Kingsley-Pierson, which finished 8-2 and will bring back a number of key performers next season.“It was a great year, a good stepping-stone,” said Neumann. “We went into the season with a lot of new skill position players. Coming into the year, I thought we had a chance to be a pretty good team and we definitely met those expectations.“Now we have to find a way to not have a letdown next year with the opportunity we have with a bunch of guys coming back.”</div>
