<div>The Austin Lady Panthers won their eighth straight game and made history by defeating DuBois Central Catholic 3-0 in front of a raucous crowd of supports on Thursday, Oct. 29.“The gym was electric, I’ve never seen it like that,” said head coach Pam Terrette. “The support that we’ve had from the community has been amazing. We’ve broken records in the amount of people in the audience coming to watch these girls. It’s been great for the whole community, not just our school.”Austin swept DuBois Central Catholic, with wins of 25-22, 25-23, 25-10 to advance to the District IX semifinals for the first time in school history.Cailyn Ogden finished the night with 12 kills, three blocks and five aces. Marissa Stuckey had nine kills and two blocks. And Anna Brewer had 22 assists and four aces.“This group of girls is really special. They’ve put a lot of time in the gym pretty much playing year-round since seventh grade to get where they are now,” said Terrette. “I think one of the differences in this team in particular is that these girls don’t give up. Twice this year we were down 2-0 and completed a reverse sweep to come back and win.”Austin’s next challenge was a tough matchup against Elk County Catholic on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Strong outside hitting propelled Elk County Catholic to a 21-6-6 overall record and the top seed in the District IX playoffs. To win against Elk County Catholic, Terrette wanted her team to return to the style of play that put them on the cusp of the District IX championship match.“We need to get back to what got us in this place to begin with, our offensive power,” said Terrette. “We have some phenomenal attackers and hitters this year. In our game against DCC, we got away from that a little bit and did more tipping and pushing. I feel that’s just not our game. We got away with it, but that’s not what got us here. I think we need to be strong in our attacking and serving.”In Tuesday’s match against the reigning District IX champs, Austin fought hard but eventually fell in three sets with scores of 28-26, 25-20 and 25-18.The Lady Panthers secured a 19-15 lead in the first set before Elk County Catholic rallied back and earned the two-point victory. After winning the second set by five points, Elk County Catholic closed out the night with a seven point victory in the final set to secure a PIAA tournament berth.Katelyn Myers led Elk County Catholic with 12 kills, nine digs and one ace. Lanie Weisner added 11 kills and six digs. For Austin, Ogden led the Lady Panthers with 13 kills, seven blocks and two aces. Marissa Stuckey had five kills and four blocks. Anna Brewer finished with 19 assists and five kills.“I couldn’t be more proud of this group of girls,” Terrette said. “Coming from the smallest public school in Pennsylvania and being able to compete is a feat in itself. We literally have some grades, like our sophomore class has two girls in the entire grade, and we can still get a team together. This group is special, that’s for sure.”“I have a lot of respect for what Austin accomplished this season,” Elk County Catholic head coach Josh Burrs said. “Making the district semifinals for the first time is a big deal for their program, and they certainly showed they belonged here. Their players competed hard, their coaches had them prepared, and their student section brought a tremendous amount of energy into our gym. That’s one of the things that makes high school playoff volleyball special.”Elk County Catholic now faces Clarion in a rematch of last year’s District IX championship match.</div>
