It’s tough to step into this arena, and in an environment where we were all bombarded with anger and negativity from campaigns across the state, we should both be proud that we ran clean races based on issues and respect,” Damoose said. “As for my own race, I am so thankful to have had support from people across the political spectrum. I think my re-election proves that people are sick and tired of constant division and want us to come together for the good of our residents. I’m looking forward to continuing on this mission over the next four years.”Gallup won Leelanau with 8,527 votes compared to 7,240 for Damoose (5445.86%), but fell in the district.“I want to thank you all so much for supporting me in this race. Victory eluded us this time. I congratulate Senator Damoose on his win,” Gallup said. “We accomplished a ton this election and ran a great race against incumbent Senator John Damoose on a shoestring budget, without any funding from corporations or unions. We talked to thousands of people about getting money out of politics to lower utility costs, fully funding our schools to give Michigan’s kids the best future possible, and protecting our air, land and water.” Damoose earns reelection after upgrading for the Michigan 107th District in 2024 with a win over Northport’s Barb Conley.“There were a lot of wins in Michigan and across this nation to celebrate, and like many I breathe a sigh of small relief to see a glimpse of what I know America truly can be,” Gallup said. “We also passed Prop 2 here in Michigan to Get Money Out of Politics. I was one of the many volunteers that organized and circulated that petition to make it on the ballot, and I am proud to have already been part of making legislative change in Michigan.”Traverse City Democrat Betsy Coffia will represent the newlydrawn 103rd House district, which includes parts of Benzie and Grand Traverse counties and all of Leelanau County. Coffia edged Northport challenger Edwin Dean Tuesday as the Associated Press race was called at 3:37 a.m. Wednesday.“Thank you, neighbors. I’m incredibly humbled to have your trust. You’ve had my back in a million ways personally and politically over the last 15 years and I don’t think you will ever know how much that has carried me in the toughest moments,” she said. “Let us build longer tables rather than higher fences, let us lead with love, wisdom and integrity. Let us expect the same from any who would lead northern Michigan, this Great Lakes state and this remarkable country. Let us face every challenge with the shared values of courage , integrity and always, always, of loving our neighbors as ourselves.”Coffia took Leelanau from Dean with 56.02% of the vote (8,830 to 6,736) (42.74%). Coffia has now defeated Dean and Jack O’Malley over the past two cycles, and was previously a Grand Traverse County commissioner and only won by nearly 800 votes.Dean congratulated Coffia and thanks his district for the support.“While last night’s results were not what we had hoped for, I am enormously grateful for the opportunity to have earned the consideration of the people of Northern Michigan,” Dean said. “Over the past several months, I knocked on thousands of doors and had conversations with people from every political background. Those conversations reinforced my belief that we have far more in common than our political divisions might suggest ...To everyone who supported this campaign, volunteered their time, or simply opened their door to a conversation, thank you. Public service does not begin or end with an election. My commitment to this community remains unchanged, and I look forward to continuing that work.”</div></body>
