Although members are excited for the future of the committee, many were saddened by Jones’ departure. “I’m so sad,
I love Mr. Jones, and I felt like he really knew the tradition well,” junior and student body vice president Reesing Urish saidStudent body co-presidents, seniors Nat Kalusha-Aguirre and Aaden Chee also expressed their feelings. “It was sad because I’ve known Jones [for so long], and I’ve had him since when I was in StuCo my freshman year,” Chee said. However, it may have been very difficult to find a new sponsor if Stephanie Scarbrough had not stepped up and taken the position. Scarbrough is an LHS alumni, a health teacher and a former volleyball coach, having spent 20 years in positions around LHS.“Taking on this role has allowed me to have a front row seat to decision making and positive change, or positive continuation… in the school,” Scarbrough said.As far as future changes go, Scarbrough’s current plan is to let her students lead the way. “I plan to let the students lead, I am there just to facilitate and offer advice,” Scarbrough said.Scarbrough reiterated that StuCo is ultimately a student organization and not just hers. “My intention is to let the students create an environment that they want to create,”
Scarbrough said.StuCo leaders are similarly excited to see what may come out of their first year under new sponsorship. . “She’s very nice, and I like her as a teacher a lot, and she really listens to what we have to say. She brings in her own ideas,” Chee said. With Scarbrough joining the StuCo team, she intends to make sure that her students are heard, and everyone involved is looking forward to many experiences that are yet to come for StuCo.“She is so kind and she puts in so much effort for us, she is such a great leader,” Kalusha-Aguirre said.</div></body>
