She intended to both live there and house Tibetan monks, but after her final divorce (and after the monks failed to show), Walska devoted herself to collecting rare plants. She renamed the property Lotusland, for the Indian lotus in one of the ponds, and poured her fortune into the project. In 1971 she auctioned off many of her jewels to fund her gardens. The maison has announced its support of Lotusland, focusing in particular on the Rose Garden Terrace. It's a gift that honors both Walska's love of the brand and the inspiration that Van Cleef has pulled from nature for a century, from countless floral variations to the butterfly motif.
