It also coordinates directly with the US Navy’s Portfolio Acquisition Executive for Maritime.“This award shows the speed at which the VCM model can move from RFP to contract,” TOTE Services President Jeff Dixon said.“Through a competitive process, we secured strong terms that benefit the government, along with build positions that allow construction to start in the fourth quarter of 2027.”HDUSA President and CEO Michael Coulter said the company had made significant investments in the shipyard’s workforce and technology since acquiring the facility in 2024.“Since acquiring Philly Shipyard in 2024, Hanwha has made significant investments in its workforce and technology to pave the way to build ships for the US Navy and other federal customers,” Coulter said.HDUSA Senior Vice President of Program Management Tim Glinatsis said company personnel had been working in Philadelphia since early 2026 to prepare the facility for naval construction.“Hanwha Philly Shipyard has already built and delivered four National Security Multi-Mission Vessels under the VCM model with TOTE Services, and we will leverage that experience to deliver the LSM to the USk Navy and Marine Corps,” Glinatsis said.<h2>LSM Program</h2>The US Navy’s LSM program aims to acquire up to 35 vessels to support amphibious transport, logistics, and near-shore operations.The ships will be based on Damen’s LST-100 design, selected in late 2025 for its potential to enable rapid fielding while reducing development risks compared to custom designs.Measuring approximately 100 meters (328 feet) long, the LST-100 can carry up to 500 metric tons (1.1 million pounds) of cargo or more than 200 personnel.The vessel has a top speed of 15 knots (17 miles/28 kilometers per hour) and a range of more than 3,400 nautical miles (6,297 kilometers).</div></body>
