Those results were clear from the beginning of votes being counted.“I’m not surprised. I mean based on social media and people I've talked to around town, I'm not surprised that it passed. Good. I mean, people put a lot of work into that, and they got what they deserved,” said Mike Mogg, Hubbard City Council President.

Data center ban passes in Hubbard

As the results came in, the Hubbard committee against data centers celebrated, saying it puts the power into their hands.“Thank you Hubbard City thank you,” said Katie Costello, data center petition organizer. “The ability to use the democracy as it was meant to be used. It's something that I wouldn't have believed until I went through it, and I think everybody on this committee feels that way. It's an incredible moment to be able to say we were able to change this.”“We now have the power to say no. Let's put the brakes on. Let's wait to see if you know if environmental changes, if technology changes, make something like this possible in the future. Then we can reconsider it,” said Jenny Goldberg, data center petition organizer. The ban stops any size data center project from coming into city limits. While happy the people's voices were heard, council president Mike Mogg said he wishes the ban did not include smaller facilities. His next steps are to put the city's data center committee on hold and talk to the community.“Until we talk with the public and see what their feelings are, if they want us to proceed and see if we can get the public to work with us to regulate data centers so that we can alter this, and we'd be happy to work with them do it. But our next steps are the law director will drop the the ordinance to ban the data centers. It'll come before council, and council will approve it,” said Mogg. Mayor Ben Kyle told 21 News voters made a clear decision and the administration will respect it. Moving forward, Kyles said the city will continue to look at regulations that protect the community and residents. The data center ban can be reversed with another vote. Ohio voters decided on 20 other data center issues, more than any other state in the nation. They voted on bans, certain regulations and zoning changes.
