She’s now working to get her desserts onto Brown’s ShopRite shelves.</figcaption></figure><p>Twelve years after turning $500 in seed money into a family pie business, a West Philadelphia entrepreneur is closing in on a milestone most small bakers only dream about.</p><p>She will soon see her homemade desserts on Brown’s ShopRite supermarket shelves, as featured by FOX 29.</p><p>Nefertari Muhammad founded Sister’s Original Supreme Pies in 2014, after her daughters received that $500 through a summer entrepreneurship program. Rather than treat it as pocket money, she saw a chance to teach them something that would last.</p><p>“I wanted to leave a legacy for my family, and actually teach them how to become business owners,” Muhammad told FOX 29.</p><p>“We collaborated, we came up with pies, and here we are,” she added.</p><p>The menu is short but memorable: Classic Bean, Butternut Squash, 24 Karrot, and Queen Bean. The pies have also held their own under pressure. Muhammad said she entered five Entrepreneur Works competitions and came away a winner in four.</p><p>“I was so determined to do it and not to give up. I overcame the fear and just kept moving,” she said.</p><p>That persistence has opened a bigger door. </p><p>Through Brown’s ShopRite Business Incubator Program, Muhammad now has access to commercial kitchen facilities as she works toward getting her products into the supermarket.</p><p>And four flavors are just the start.
