<div>For years, students and faculty alike have consistently complained about one thing: There’s not enough parking on campus. With construction on campus, parking spots have been removed, making parking worse than ever – but an anonymous parking petition circulating online may be making a positive impact.Shuttle drivers announced last week that route changes meant to make moving around campus easier will be going into effect today, Sept. 22. Historically, two shuttle buses serve campus, both moving along the same route, and at the beginning of this semester, one looped in routine stops at Hyder-Burks Agricultural Pavilion. Today, that changes. One shuttle route will run continually between the Tech Village and West Purple lots and Hyder-Burks.Another route will take commuters back and forth between those same two peripheral lots to a shuttle stop on campus, with the intention of reducing foot traffic across Willow Avenue. From there, commuters can take one of two central shuttles, one running clockwise and the other counterclockwise, around campus.Officials say they are hoping the new routes will make the shuttle service operate faster, easing some of the stress students and faculty alike have experienced from the recent parking congestion. The shortage of parking reportedly impacted faculty and staff at the beginning of the semester, with some forced to park in peripheral purple lots or off campus because no parking is available in the gold lot access they paid for. Some students have reported cancelled classes because their instructors were unable to find parking.Having had enough, students decided to circulate a petition titled “Tennessee Tech Students for Parking Relief.” The petition alleges that over $40,000 has been charged in parking tickets to students. More than 1,000 verified petition signatures have been collected since the petition went live.Students can use the petition to state their connection to Tech, how long it takes to find parking, their experience, and how much they’ve been charged in parking tickets.Multiple construction projects and parking area closures have “placed significant pressure on the parking,” the petition says.Students are experiencing “extended searches for parking, parking farther from academic buildings, increased congestion around campus, and concerns about receiving citations or being towed,” it continues. The petition asks Tech leadership to meet with student representatives, review current parking capacity and construction impacts, and announce meaningful temporary parking measures“This petition is about solving the problem, not assigning blame,” it says.</div>
