(WTOK) -Our Monday morning has started out with passing clouds and with temperatures in-between the lower to mid 70s. As we go throughout the morning we’ll see a mixture of sunshine and clouds, but once we get beyond lunchtime, that’s when scattered showers and thunderstorms will start to develop across the region. These scattered showers and storms will bring along heavy rainfall, thunder, lightning and stronger wind gust.Some storms will have the potential to become severe, as all of our viewing area is covered under a low, level one marginal risk for severe weather. The biggest risk will be the potential for damaging wind gust, but be sure to remain weather aware and have multiple ways of getting weather alerts. It is going to be another hot day as temperatures this afternoon will rise into the mid 90s, and heat index values will rise over 100 degrees. Tonight we have a small chance for a stray shower or two, but we’ll mostly be dealing with passing clouds and areas of patchy fog. Heading into Tuesday, the morning could feature a few isolated showers, but our best chance for rain will once again come in the afternoon hours as scattered showers and thunderstorms pop up once again.There is a low end risk for severe weather on Tuesday as well as portions of Kemper County and Sumter County are covered under a low, level one marginal risk for severe weather. The biggest risk will be the potential for damaging wind gust. Be sure to remain weather aware and have multiple ways of getting weather alerts.Fall officially begins Tuesday, September 22nd, and we are watching for a cold front to potentially cross over our area in the middle of the week. While this cold front will not bring any rainfall, it could help our dew points drop and help bring our temperatures closer to the average for this time of the year.
