(WOWT) - Collective for Hope officially opened Omaha’s first and only dedicated grief center.</p><p>The Courtnage Home for Health and Hope is designed to help individuals, families and organizations better understand the impact of grief and offer a welcoming space for support.</p><p>“At Collective for Hope, we discovered a community — one that no one wants to join but everyone needs,” according to Collective for Hope.</p><p>Matt Peck shared his journey that started two years ago, when he lost his wife and partner of 20 years, Meghan Sheehan, and his young children lost their mom. Matt says Collective for Hope gave them hope and the strength to carry on.</p><p>“When you’re going through grief, there’s a lot of sadness. There’s also embarrassment; you can feel shame, but you can find those moments of happy, even though you’ve lost someone very important to you,” said Peck.</p><p>“And this became a place where it was safe to feel all of those feelings with other people, and realize you’re not really alone,” Peck said.</p><h2>Serving thousands each year</h2><p>Matt and his family are just one of many who turned to Collective for Hope to work through the loss of a loved one.</p><p>“Any given week, we are serving a hundred to at least 150 individuals or families directly,” said Cliff McEvoy, executive director of Collective for Hope.</p><p>“So we’ve been doing that for 25 years. Any given year, we support about 2,000 individuals and families directly, and we can also, through our outreach education programming, serve another 3,000 throughout a given year,” McEvoy said.</p><p>This new grief center will allow Collective for Hope to do even more. There’s space for training, workshops and breakout rooms for support groups, and space for counseling and therapy.</p><p>“But to come together in community, in a building like this, in a safe, brave space, we can share the uniqueness of our grief together, because all of us here have experienced it,” according to Collective for Hope.</p><h2>Family feels ‘complete again’</h2><p>For Matt and his family, being a part of this community has helped them feel complete again.</p><p>“We’re always going to have the great loss of losing their mom and my wife, but we’re able to feel not alone, open ourselves back up, feel all the feelings, good and bad, openly, because of this place, because of Collective for Hope,” Peck said.</p><p>Collective for Hope is a nonprofit organization.
