Developer GBT Realty Corporation says the project will include nearly 300,000 square feet of retail, restaurants and services. That is a major addition for Sumner County, and it comes at a time when Gallatin is already dealing with the effects of rapid residential growth.
A big new retail center for a fast-growing part of Gallatin
GBT Realty plans to break ground in early November 2026, according to information reported by FOX 17.The company says The Crossroads of Gallatin will be the largest new shopping destination developed in the Nashville area in 12 years. Plans call for a mix of large retailers, smaller stores, restaurants, cafés, health and wellness businesses and other services.Exactly which businesses will move in is still a mystery.GBT says tenant names will be announced as deals are completed, so anyone hoping to see a favorite restaurant or store on the list will have to wait a little longer. There will also be six outparcels, ranging from about one acre to 1.7 acres, that can be developed for additional businesses. For shoppers, that could eventually mean several standalone restaurants or service businesses around the main retail center, though no specific tenants for those sites have been announced.

Image Credit: Ichabod , CC BY-SA 3.0 , via Wikimedia Commons

Why developers are betting on Gallatin
The location tells much of the story. The project sits near SR-386, one of the main routes linking Sumner County communities with the Nashville area. GBT estimates that more than 47,000 vehicles travel Vietnam Veterans Boulevard each day.The developer also projects that Green Lea Boulevard could eventually carry about 21,700 vehicles per day once the center is completed. Then there are all the rooftops.According to GBT figures reported by FOX 17, more than 15,000 homes are either planned or already under development within a 10-minute drive of the site. The company says more than 63,000 people already live in the surrounding area. Those numbers help explain why retailers are interested.Shopping centers follow population growth, and Gallatin has increasingly become part of the larger development wave spreading through communities north and northeast of Nashville.
The city has already been reviewing the project
The Crossroads is not appearing out of nowhere.Gallatin's own development records list The Crossroads of Gallatin Phase 1 and Phase 2 among projects that have received preliminary approval. The city describes both as commercial developments east of Green Lea Boulevard and north of Harris Lane.City Council records also show officials considering zoning for the second phase earlier this year.At a May 19, 2026 meeting, the Gallatin City Council unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance involving roughly 25.35 acres for The Crossroads Phase 2. The proposal involved rezoning the property from mixed-use to planned general commercial zoning and amending the project's preliminary development plan. That local approval process matters because a development of this size does more than add storefronts. It can reshape traffic patterns, create new commercial corridors and encourage even more development nearby.
Gallatin has a lot happening at once
Anyone who has driven around Gallatin lately probably does not need a government website to tell them construction is everywhere.Still, the city's official development list puts the scale into perspective.Along with The Crossroads, Gallatin has recently tracked projects involving hundreds of homes, townhomes and apartments, new commercial sites and mixed-use developments. The city's July development update included projects such as Westfield, Windsong and Woods Crossing, among others. That creates a simple cycle.More homes bring more residents. More residents create demand for stores and restaurants. Those businesses, in turn, make an area more attractive for additional housing and investment. The Crossroads is one of the clearest examples yet of that cycle playing out in Gallatin.
The biggest question: Who is actually coming?
For many residents, square footage and traffic counts will not be the most exciting details. They want names. Will Gallatin get restaurants that currently require a drive toward Hendersonville or Nashville? Will national retailers that have skipped the city finally arrive? Will the project include businesses that are new to Sumner County?Right now, those answers are not public. The developer has said only that the center will contain a combination of major retailers, restaurants, cafés, wellness providers and other businesses.Until leases are signed and announcements are made, anything more specific would be guesswork. That may make the tenant announcements the part of this project that attracts the most attention over the next several months.
Convenience comes with another issue: traffic
A development designed around tens of thousands of daily drivers will naturally raise questions about congestion. The project is positioned beside major roads for a reason: businesses want visibility and easy access. But Gallatin's growth also means roads that once felt relatively quiet are carrying more commuters, school traffic, delivery vehicles and shoppers. The developer's own traffic figures show just how busy this area is expected to become. How surrounding roads, intersections and traffic signals adapt will be worth watching as construction moves ahead. That does not mean the retail center itself will necessarily create a traffic problem. Gallatin's broader population growth is already adding vehicles to the road system. But a commercial destination this large will become another major piece of the transportation puzzle.

This is another sign that Gallatin is changing
For years, Nashville's growth story was mostly about Nashville. Then communities such as Franklin, Murfreesboro, Hendersonville and Mt. Juliet became major destinations in their own right.Gallatin is increasingly following that pattern. The Crossroads of Gallatin is notable not simply because it contains nearly 300,000 square feet of commercial space. It represents the kind of investment that developers usually make when they expect a community's population and spending power to keep growing.GBT founder George Tomlin told FOX 17 that the company sees Gallatin as one of Middle Tennessee's major growth stories and expects the development to become an important retail destination for Sumner County. The real test will come after construction begins and tenants start being announced. For now, Gallatin residents know one thing: a very large new shopping and dining center is on the way.And the most interesting part — exactly what will be inside it — is still to come.
Sources
FOX 17 Nashville, Sept. 16, 2026, reporting on The Crossroads of Gallatin.City of Gallatin, Developments in Gallatin, updated July 22, 2026.City of Gallatin, City Council Minutes, May 19, 2026, including zoning action involving The Crossroads Phase 2.GBT Realty Corporation lists The Crossroads of Gallatin among its retail development portfolio.
